my greatest fear was water. I have always wanted to learn how to swim but the water scared me. When my father bought our first aquarium at home, I got very excited after seeing the little fishes swimming around the tank. I thought to myself, how wonderful it was to be able to go underwater and see the wonderful things there. So, I promised to myself that the next time the family goes to the beach, I would try to learn to swim, or at least jump in the water.
Then one day, I accompanied a friend to the public swimming pool. I promised myself that I would at least get into the pool, but I changed my mind when I saw many people there, especially children. I wished I could swim, but I was too afraid to try and too shy to learn. Ira, my best friend, came out and jumped into the pool. She is a good swimmer. She asked me to join her but I refused. I paddled my leg in the water.
Then I felt someone pushing me and I fell into the water!
I screamed and panicked. I struggled to breathe and tried to hold my head above the water. I thought I was going to die. Then I felt hand holding and pushing me up slowly. I felt pain in my chest. Then I coughed the out the water and heard sounds of relief around me. Ira hugged me closely and asked me if I was all right or not. I had almost drowned. It was traumatic yet at the same time exhilarating to know that I had survived.
After the incident, I enrolled in swimming classes and now I go swimming almost every each a month :D
